Research
The following reading error patterns have become commonplace in schooling today:
1 'mad' is misread as 'maid'
2 'big' is misread as 'dig'.
3 'dam' is misread as 'dim'
4 'insist' is misread as 'insect'.
4 'of' is misread as 'for'
6 The child say 'I don't know' when asked to read longer words like 'insistent' and
7 doesn't appear to notice when a word's spelling 'looks wrong' (proof reading)
VAS
Theory explains:
- why these error patterns develop and
- how to identify in advance the child at risk of developing these problems
- how to minimise the chance of these problems developing.
If your child exhibits any of these error patterns, read on.
Tests
for phonic skills are readily
available
Tests
for word-guessing skills have not been available
- until now.
The
free assessment tests on this link
http://www.theharrisontest.com
enable teachers and parents to measure word-guessing
skills as well as phonic skills. Once the tests have
been completed, a summary of the results can be
produced.
Anyone can administer the tests (a script is also
provided) but we recommend that you read the
explanatory notes prior to using each test. You will
also need to register so that your test results can
be kept securely for your use only.
